Apple Notes received a redesign with the release of iOS 15. Some old features saw a slight increase, and some new features brought them closer to popular third-party note-taking apps like Evernote. Haven’t tried Apple Notes yet? It’s time to start using Apple Notes and discover these 10 amazing features.
In this article, Niketrainers.com.co will tell you:
1. Collaborate with @Mention
Sharing a note in Apple Notes is nothing new, but now you can also tag a person in the note. This will allow users to tag people with an “@” sign to draw their attention to something important in the note.
This can be used to create a to-do list where different family members have to buy different things. It can also be used to delegate tasks or pay attention to details. Just share the note as you normally do and add an “@” in front of the person’s name anywhere in the note.
Tip:You can also add people to a folder in Apple Notes, in which case all notes in that folder will be available to them.
2. Categorize your notes with #HashTags
You can now use hashtags in Apple Notes just like you do with social media apps like Instagram. Just add one or more hashtags to a note to rank them. This also makes it easier to find them later using the Tag Viewer, which is explained in more detail in this list.
You can also select multiple notes and add one or more existing tags to them.
3. Search for tags using the tag viewer
Not only can you search for tags using the search bar, but all tags are arranged alphabetically in the Tag Viewer. This makes it easier to find tags if you have a lot of them.
Go to the Notes home page to find the “Tags” heading. Select a tag directly there or tap “All Tags” to go into details. Inside, you can search for tags and select more than one tag to further refine your search results.
4. Categorize tagged notes with smart folders
Smart Folders are nothing but notes tagged with specific tags that are grouped in a folder. You can then quickly access that folder from the folder list. For example, I have one for the post office.
To create a Smart Folder, simply tap on the “Folder” icon in the lower left corner and select “New Smart Folder”. You can name the folder and select one or more tags to group your notes in the folder.
You can also create new labels on the fly if you want.
5. Track user activity in the activity view
Things can quickly get out of hand if too many members are actively involved in the note. Use the activity view to track who made changes to the note and when.
Tap the “People” icon at the top and select the “Show All Activity” button to view all activities by date, time and member name.
6. Use highlights to distinguish between changes
It makes sense to track user activities, but having to go through UI options is an unfortunate chore. Use the Featured feature to highlight changes to the note so you don’t have to go to the menu. It also provides much better context when reading your notes.
Click the “People” icon and select “Show Featured”. Changes made by other members will be color coded for better differentiation.
Tip:Swipe right when a note is open to see the highlights.
7. Take quick notes anywhere
One of the fastest ways to access an app or feature is to add a widget to the Control Center, which also works for Apple Notes. Go to “Settings -> Control Center” and tap the “+” icon next to “Notes” to add it.
Launch Control Center on any screen to take quick notes that sync via iCloud across all your devices.
In iPadOS 15, you can swipe up from the bottom right corner in any app or on the home screen to add or access a quick note.
8. Drag and drop anything, anywhere
Found a photo you want to save to Apple Notes? Maybe some wise words you want to jot down or copy and paste? You can now drag images or text fragments from one app to another in iOS 15. This works across the entire operating system. First, tap and hold an image or copy text, then tap and hold it to move it from another app to Notes.
9. Live text
Live Text is nothing more than OCR technology that works on the entire device, in all applications. You can open an image and capture the phone number it contains. You can also copy the Wi-Fi password using the Camera app by pointing the lens at the subject with the word.
However, it is not perfect. In the example above, convert ‘f’ to fi‘. Future updates should correct these errors.
10. Handwritten notes
You can take handwritten notes on your iPhone by using a combination of different pencils and other tools available in Notes. These handwritten notes are also searchable thanks to the OCR technology implemented by Apple using Live Text.
Tap the pencil icon to reveal a hidden toolbar containing tools such as the pencil, marker, eraser, ruler, and color picker.
Ending
With the release of iOS 15, Apple Notes has become a more comprehensive note-taking app. It has smart folders, tags, mentions, advanced search, OCR and other features that we expect from our regularly used applications. There are many other note-taking apps for iOS that you can try if Apple Notes still doesn’t live up to your expectations.
The only downside is that it isn’t platform-independent yet, but that’s to be expected of most Apple apps.
