Ayodeji Balogun, better known by his stage name Wizkid, has made history as the first musician from Nigeria to get a diamond certification for a single from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the United States. This achievement was conferred on Balogun by the RIAA in the United States.
Wizkid was given this award to recognize his work on the production of Drake’s song “One Dance,” which also features the British singer Kyla and the Nigerian superstar. On April 5, 2016, the music was made available to the public.
Since the release of the global smash song, the single that was produced by Wizkid, Nigeria’s Sarz, South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa, Canada’s Ninteen85, and 40 has earned acceptance and recognition from a variety of nations.
On December 8, 2022, “One Dance” was awarded the Diamond certification, signifying that it had sold more than 10 million copies in the United States alone. This occurred six years after the song made its debut on the international stage.
Pitchfork says that the song “One Dance” is about the magical connection that can happen between two people when they are dancing together in a club and the energy is high. Wizkid’s chirps fit right into the beat, and Drake’s vocals soar above it. A collision of tones and polyrhythms takes place in the final few seconds as Kyla’s croons are replaced by Drake’s for the final time. It seems to be a sign of the many different cultures that are being shown right now.
