On Sunday, Roma’s manager Jose Mourinho was ejected from the game after his club played Torino to a 1-1 draw in the Italian Serie A.
Within the game’s final few minutes, the home team had a penalty kick opportunity, but they missed it.
Mourinho’s ire was already well on its way to being directed toward a judgment made in the first half that did not award his team a penalty for a handball that the VAR concluded was accidental. In the final minute of regulation time, he was sent off for protesting, which led to the away team Torino taking a 1-0 lead.
Mourinho told DAZN that the verdict was correct and that his comments to the referee deserved to get him a red card.
“I apologized to him when I saw him after the game,” she said. On the other hand, I do not wish to comment on his performance. I was contrite enough to apologize, but I won’t comment on his play or the possible impact he had on the game. I’ll leave that to you to decide.
“I do not wish to discuss what we discussed because it was a private matter. Although I believe the referee should have shown me a red card for my comments, I will not criticize their performance.
After further three minutes, a penalty kick taken by Andrea Belotti was saved by the post following a foul committed by Koffi Djidji against Paulo Dybala.
With four minutes remaining in stoppage time, Matic took a long shot from outside the penalty area and tied the game for Roma.
Karol Linetty, who was not selected for Poland’s World Cup squad that will travel to Qatar, scored for Torino in the 55th minute after leaping for Wilfried Singo’s cross and then headed the ball into the net.
As the league prepares to take a break for the World Cup, Roma sit in seventh place with 27 points after having played 15 games. With 21 points, Torino are currently in ninth place.
