Is the file open on a different computer?
If your computer is connected to a local network, at home or in the office, the file you want to close may be open on a different part of the network (maybe even by accident!).
If you suspect a file may be open on another computer on the network, you don’t need to ask questions in the office or play games on other computers.
Instead, click Start, search for “computer management,” and open it.
In the new window, click the down arrow next to System Tools, the down arrow next to Shared Folders, and then Open Files.
This will show you all shared files that are open on your network. You can right-click the file and then close it, or you can click an empty space and “Detach all open files”.
Find the file in the Task Manager

Find the file in the Processes tab that shows all the applications that are currently in use, with or without your knowledge.
Select a file and tap “End Task” at the bottom of the Manager window to prevent the program from using the file.

Restart File Explorer through the Task Manager
Open the Task Manager again and go to the Processes tab.
Scroll down until you find the Windows Explorer process. Right-click it, then click End Task.
Go to File at the top of the Manager window and select “Run new task”.
In the new window that will open, type “explorer.exe” and press Enter.
This process will restart Windows Explorer to fix any memory or cached file issues that may have been causing the problem.
Go to the file again and try to delete it. If it still doesn’t work, go to the next step.
Disable thumbnail caching in hidden thumbs.db files
Microsoft has admitted in the past that the thumbnail cache related to files and folders can trigger the “The file is open in another program” error, so dealing with the thumbnail cache can help resolve the error.
1. PressWygrać+R.
2. Typegpedit.msc
and then press Enter.
3. In the new window that appears, go to “User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> File Explorer”.
4. Go to the right pane and double-click “Disable thumbnail caching in hidden thumbs.db files”.
5. Select the button next to Enabled and then Apply and then OK.
All thumbnails in File Explorer will now be disabled, allowing you to perform the requested action on the file. You can then re-enable thumbnails by following the steps above and changing the policy back to “Not Configured”.
Delete temporary files
Temporary files are stored on your computer each time you modify the file in any way. These temporary files may prevent related files from being moved or deleted. This way you can get rid of temporary files from computer memory.

Check the folder for viruses
Finally, if none of the above methods work, your problem could be more serious. There may be a virus associated with the file that prevents you from making changes to the file. Run the file with your antivirus software to locate any virus or malware it may contain.
If this happens, isolate the file using your antivirus software and remove it before it can infect other files.
