Each hardware device connected to Windows requires that hardware drivers be installed in order to function properly. Hardware drivers have low-level access to Windows so they can function as they should. As drivers access the kernel, Windows requires these drivers to be officially signed. This means that Microsoft is trying to block all attempts to install unsigned drivers on Windows 10.
However, there will be times when you will need to install unofficial drivers, unsigned drivers, and even old drivers without a digital signature. It is possible but not as simple as installing signed drivers.
Note:Verifying driver signatures is a security feature and it is not recommended to disable it. Only install unsigned drivers from trusted sources. Always make a full backup of your computer and make sure you have created a recovery drive before continuing. A untrusted driver may prevent you from using your computer without full format.
There are three different ways to install unsigned drivers on Windows 10. They each work, so choose the one that’s the most convenient for you or the one that works best for you.
In this article, Niketrainers.com.co will tell you:
1. Install unsigned drivers from the advanced boot menu
The easiest way to install unsigned drivers is to use the advanced boot menu of Windows 10. To do this, pressWygrać+X, go to “Shut Down”, thenZmiana+ left-click “Restart”.
The above action will restart the system and enter the Advanced Boot menu. Here, select the “Troubleshooting” option.
In the Troubleshooting section, select “Advanced Options”.
Select “Startup Settings”.
Startup Settings allows you to start Windows in different modes. Simply click the “Restart” button to continue.
Since we need to install unsigned drivers, pressF7on the keyboard to select the seventh option: “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”.
As soon as you select it, the system will boot into Windows. Then you can install unsigned drivers on Windows hassle free. After installation, restart your system and the driver signing application will be automatically enabled the next time you start it.
If you ever want to install another unsigned driver, you’ll have to go through the above process again. This method is ideal if you only want to install an unsigned driver once or rarely.
2. Install unsigned drivers by enabling trial mode
Another way to install unsigned drivers is to enable test mode in Windows 10. The advantage of this method is that it will stay enabled until you manually disable it, which is very useful if you are testing different drivers.
To get started, open the Start menu and type “Command Prompt”. Select “Run as administrator” in the command prompt.
The above action will open a command prompt with administrator privileges which is required to enable test mode. When prompted, copy and run the following command:
bcdedit / set testsigning on
You will see that the command has been successfully completed. Just reboot your system and it will boot into test mode. In test mode, you can install unsigned drivers. Additionally, you’ll also see a watermark similar to the screenshot below to let you know that your Windows is in test mode.
After the driver installation is complete, it is important to disable the test mode. To do this, use the following command as administrator and restart the system:
bcdedit / set testsigning off
3. Install unsigned drivers by disabling integrity checking
You can also disable integrity checking to install unsigned drivers on Windows. Disable integrity checking by opening a command prompt as administrator (Start, search for command prompt, select “Run as administrator”) and run the following command:
bcdedit / set nointegritychecks off
After running the command, just restart the system and you can install the unsigned driver on your Windows 10 PC.
As with test mode, it is important to enable integrity checking. To re-enable integrity checking, run the following command as administrator at a command prompt:
bcdedit / set nointegritychecks on
Now reboot your system and you are done.
