If you’ve just bought a new Android phone, you’re probably looking for ways to transfer phone numbers from your old device to your new one. Luckily, on Android, it’s a fairly straightforward process. Here we show you how to get contacts on a new device in no time.
In this article, Niketrainers.com.co will tell you:
Easily transfer your contacts from Google
By default, Google has a very good system that automatically backs up your data (not only contacts, but also photos, videos, text messages and other data).
All of this takes place in the background and the resulting file is linked to the Google account you used on your Android device. Now, if you keep using the same Google account on the new phone, all that data will be transferred there quickly and easily. No need to do anything other than sign in with your Google credentials.
All your data is stored in Google Drive, and the good news is that Google doesn’t count it towards your Drive storage quota (photos are exempt from this rule, however).
Even if the Google backup tool is turned on by default, you can still check if the feature is working properly.
1. Open the Settings app on your phone.
2. Scroll down until you find System.
3. Click Backup to view more details.
4. Make sure the “Backup to Google Drive” option is active and that the tool is backing up the data linked to your primary Google account (or any other account you want).
5. You can also instruct the phone to perform a new backup by pressing the blue “Back up now” button.
Remember that Google will back up your data once a day and the Backup section will show you when the last backup was made. If you are not satisfied with it, feel free to make a new one.
How to save new contacts to your Google account
Google is usually great at backing up your data, but if you want to make sure that new contacts are saved directly to your Google account, you can do so manually. You’ll want to do this, especially if you’re using a Samsung device that will automatically save your details to your Samsung account instead of your Google account.
1. Open the Phone app on your phone.
2. Press or the “+” button in the upper right corner of the screen.
3. Enter contact information, but look for “Save to” in the “Create Contact” section before pressing Save.
4. Tap the default “Device” option and select your primary Google Account.
This will ensure that the new contact is saved to the selected Google account.
How to manually transfer your contacts from Android to Android?
It is possible to manually transfer contacts to a new phone. You will need to create a .vcf file and then transfer it to your device to access the data. Here’s how you can do it.
1. Download your old Android device and go to the Contacts app.
2. Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of the screen and select Settings from there.
3. Select “Import / Export” in the Contact Operations section.
4. Select “Export to .vcf” to start the process.
5. Choose where you want to place the backup. It may be in internal storage (such as your Downloads folder) or Google Drive.
6. After making your selections, the creation of the .vcf file will begin.
Once the process is complete, you can go ahead and check that the file is in the location you specified. If you’ve selected local storage, you’ll need to send the .vcf file to your Gmail account for easy access on your new device.
How to import contacts to a new phone
To manually import contacts to a new phone, you first need to download the .vcf file to your device. If you’ve saved it to Google Drive, that’s great, you can easily access it from there (as long as you signed up with the same Gmail account).
On the other hand, if you emailed the .vcf file to the new device, download the file to the new device. You should find it in the Downloads section of your phone (this can vary – on OnePlus devices, you’ll need to access the File Manager first). Then follow these steps:
1. Open the Contacts app on your phone.
2. Select the three-dot menu in the top right corner and press “Settings”.
3. Touch the “Import / Export” button.
4. Select “Import from .vcf”.
5. Choose where you want to save the contacts. The first option is available on your phone, but you can also add them to your Google account.
6. The phone will search for .vcf files on your device. It will then display a list of available options. Select the correct .vcf file, then press the OK button. Your numbers will be sent to the new phone.
If you double-check the Contacts app on your new phone now, you should see that it has been filled with all the phone numbers you had on your old device.
It is! As you can see, it’s very easy to transfer contacts from one Android phone to another. Regardless of the phone model you use, you should have no problem transferring your data safely.
