Bad System Config Info is a common error checking error on Windows systems, mainly caused by a crash of the system and registry files or a boot configuration data (BCD) file. Some boot order files on the BCD, and even older ones, can conflict with newer, more stable files. When this happens, an error also known as the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) occurs.
The error checking error can also be caused by:
- defective hardware
- incorrect system configuration
- bad driver
- installing a major update
However, most error messages usually describe the problem. Here are some best practices to help you fix the invalid system configuration information error on Windows 10.
In this article, Niketrainers.com.co will tell you:
Check your RAM and hard drive
For some, it may seem overwhelming to look inside a computer and start playing with the physical components. However, the health and matching of RAM and hard drive can cause a system configuration information error.
If you’re comfortable opening your computer, you can look inside to make sure the RAM is properly seated in the slots and the hard drive’s SATA cables are properly connected as well. These checks should not take more than a few minutes.
Assuming your RAM and hard drive are properly installed, you should check the health of your RAM and the health of your hard drive, which we have guides to here on the site. If you are getting poor results on both sides, it may be causing errors and it may be time to look for a replacement for the correct components.
Update or reinstall the drivers
Incompatible or outdated drivers are the source of various problems. The worst bad drivers they can do is display BSoD errors like incorrect system configuration information.
To fix this you need to go to Windows Device Manager (Wygraćkey, then typedevice manager
). In the Device Manager window, click “Action -> Scan for hardware changes”, then look for yellow exclamation marks next to any device. (You’ll need to click on the drop-down icons to find them.)
If you find drivers that are not working properly, right-click them and then click “Update Driver”. If the problem persists, right-click the driver, then click “Uninstall Device”. If it is a system device (such as the built-in Ethernet port driver), it will be automatically reinstalled when you restart your computer.
If it is a third-party driver, it will be reinstalled when the device is reconnected or the software is reinstalled.
bcdedit command
Very often, the Bad System Config Info error can appear when the system configuration is incorrect or incorrectly configured. Additionally, if the memory and processors in the configuration file are set to the wrong value, you will also get an error preventing you from accessing Windows 10.
To fix this problem, activate Windows 10 to access the advanced Start menu:
1. Click Start.
2. Click Power.
3. HoldResztaand click Restart.
4. The Choose an Option screen will appear. Select Troubleshoot.
5. In the Troubleshooting window, select “Advanced options”.
6. In the Advanced Options window, select Command Prompt.
7. The computer restarts and displays the blue command prompt screen. You will be prompted to select an account to continue. Press Enter and then enter the password for that account.
8. Enter the following lines after starting the command prompt:
bcdedit / deletevalue { default } numproc bcdedit / deletevalue { default } truncatememory
9. Close the command prompt.
10. Restart Windows 10.
Repair the BCD file
If the BCD file is corrupted or corrupted, you may receive the Invalid System Configuration Information error and completely deny you access to Safe Mode and Windows 10.
To fix this problem, you’ll need a bootable Windows 10 USB flash drive or installation DVD. You can also use the Media Creation Tool if you don’t have a bootable USB drive.
Here’s what to do next:
1. Insert and boot from the Windows 10 bootable DVD.
2. The installation of Windows 10 will start.
3. Click Next.
4. Click “Repair Your Computer”.
5. Select “Troubleshooting -> Advanced Options -> Command Prompt”.
6. Enter the following lines after starting the command prompt. (Press enter after each line to execute it.)
bootrec / repairbcd bootrec / osscan bootrec / repairmbr
7. Close the command prompt.
8. Restart the computer.
Note: Thelast command entered will delete and then recreate the MBR. Please be careful when using it.
Repair the registry
There are specific registry issues that can cause the error, but you can repair the registry to fix it by following these steps:
1. Boot from the Windows 10 installation DVD.
2. Select “Troubleshooting -> Advanced Options -> Command Prompt”.
3. Enter the following lines after starting the command prompt. (Press enter after each line to execute it.)
cd C: WindowsSystem32config ren C: WindowsSystem32configDEFAULT DEFAULT.old ren C: WindowsSystem32configSAM SAM.old ren C: WindowsSystem32configSECURITY SECURITY.old ren C: WindowsSystem32configSOFTWARE SOFTWARE.old ren C: WindowsSystem32configSYSTEM SYSTEM.old
Note: Thefolders for each of these commands are changed when you press Enter, and when you do, Windows 10 won’t use them again. They can be deleted, but it’s best to rename them in case you need to restore your system much later.
4. Then enter the following lines at the command prompt:
copy C: WindowsSystem32configRegBackDEFAULT C: WindowsSystem32config copy C: WindowsSystem32configRegBackDEFAULT C: WindowsSystem32config copy C : WindowsSystem32configRegBackSAM C: WindowsSystem32config copy C: WindowsSystem32configRegBackSECfigackSystem32 C: WindowsSystem32configRegackSECfigackSystem32WindowsSystem32conystemBackSECfigackSystem32WindowsSystem32conSystemBackSECfigURITYWindows
This process copies the registry backup and replaces old files. Close the command prompt and restart your computer.
System Restore
If the other methods don’t help, it might be one of the last two solutions you can try.
1. Click Start.
2. Click Power.
3. HoldResztaand click Restart.
4. Select “Troubleshooting -> Advanced Options -> System Restore”.
5. Choose your username.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
7. Select the desired restore point.
8. Click Next and wait for the process to complete.
Reset Windows 10
This is the last solution that you can try if neither of the others worked. Please make a backup before restarting as after restarting Windows all files will be deleted from C partition.
1. Click Start.
2. Click Power.
3. HoldResztaand click Restart.
4. Select “Troubleshooting -> Reset this PC”.
5. Select “Delete All -> Only the drive where Windows is installed -> Just delete my files”.
6. Click Reset and wait for the process to complete. When it’s finished, you’ll get a fresh installation of Windows 10.
A restart should fix the problem if it was software related to the computer.
Despite its problems, we think Windows 10 is still a great operating system. But if you run into other issues like headphone failure or abnormally high CPU usage on Windows 10, we’re here to help.
