President Muhammadu Buhari has bestowed national honors upon a total of 447 citizens of Nigeria as well as friends of the nation.
Tuesday was the day that the Investiture Ceremony for the 2022 National Honours Awards took place at the International Conference Center in Abuja.
A Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), a Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR), a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), and a Commander of the Order of the Niger were bestowed upon the honorees (CON).
The Arole Oduduwa and Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, was described as a great advocate of Youth and Women Empowerment, a passionate Promoter of Peace and Unity in Africa, and an exemplary selfless leader relentlessly doing his best to preserve the cultural values of the African people in a video that went viral while President Buhari was decorating him. In addition to the Ooni of Ife, who was presented with the title of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR), President Buhari honored Nigerian singers Burna Boy and Teni by bestowing upon them the title of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
In the video, Burna Boy’s father, Samuel Ogulu, is shown receiving the medal from Buhari on his son’s behalf. Burna Boy is not present. Teni was also caught when she was obtaining hers.
The award is in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the landscape of music around the world.
