Snap Layout is one of the greatest features of Windows 11. When you open multiple windows in different applications, Windows 11 allows you to arrange all of them on the screen according to different layouts, which are then saved in a specific layout. This way you get more screen space to maximize your multitasking possibilities.
People looking to get the Snap Layout effect like Windows 11 on Windows 10 can take advantage of Windows 10’s built-in features that support similar navigation. Here we show you different methods to achieve it.
In this article, Niketrainers.com.co will tell you:
What is the Snap layout in Windows 11?
Snap layouts in Windows 11 are a set of predefined templates that organize application windows on the screen based on the user’s selected “Snap Navigator”. This navigation feature appears as soon as you hover your mouse over the Maximize button.
In addition, the selected window arrangement in the Snap Layout view can be minimized and restored as a “Snap Group” from the taskbar.
There are currently six types of layouts in which you can customize windows:
- 50:50 arrangement of two windows of the same size
- The 80:20 layout contains the main and sub window screens
- An equal three-column layout requires a laptop / PC display that is fully HD compatible at 1080p (1920 × 1080).
- 50:25:25 layout for three window displays
- The 25: 25: 25: 25 layout is useful for multitasking with four windows open.
- Unequal arrangement of three columns.
Windows 11 has a “Multitasking” settings page where you can customize what happens when two or more windows are open. The same functionality exists in Windows 10. (See the section on customizing with Snap Assist).
How to use the Snap layout in Windows 10
There is also a Snap Layout feature in Windows 10, which may not seem as easy and intuitive as Windows 11, but it produces very similar results. There are three ways to get snapping to a window in Windows 10: the mouse, the keyboard shortcut keys, and the snap assistant.
1. Capture with your mouse
Adjusting with the mouse is very easy in Windows 10. Just select the title bar of any application window and drag it to the corners of the screen. When you release the pointer, it will jump to that position.
You can arrange multiple application windows side by side and resize them according to your needs. While the mouse method is manual and takes slightly longer, it is a fairly efficient method for those looking to make better use of the available screen space.
2. Customize with hotkeys
If you want to feel auto-fit in Windows 10 with windows of the same size, it is better to use the hotkeys:Wygrać+Klawisze strzałek. First, go to the open window, use the keyboard shortcut, and it will arrange the program windows automatically.
In the example below, for the Command Prompt window, the left arrow key is used in conjunction with theWygraćKey Code. This put the command prompt in the left corner, taking up almost a quarter of the screen.
The next example below shows the setting of the Microsoft Edge browser window in the right corner of the screen. For this purpose, the right arrow key was used together with theWygraćKey Code. The rest of the windows in the application are arranged in a scrollable grid.
3. Capture using Snap Assist
Windows 10 has a dedicated “Snap Assist” feature that controls how windows are split. It can be accessed from the system settings “Tuning Settings” in the search field. A similar feature is available in Windows 11 in the “Multitasking” section, which can be searched in the same way.
Turn on “snapping windows” to enable the snapping feature in Windows 10. Also, enable other options such as automatically size the available space and resize adjacent snap windows at the same time.
Now, just click on the thumbnail of the window you want to customize with Snap Assist. It will be fixed in the corner. The rest of the windows will be carefully sized to fit the first so that there is no blank space.
While Windows 11 improves it significantly, the “snapping” feature has been around since Windows 7. While it’s not the same as Windows 11, there are many advantages to using the Snap Layout feature in Windows 10.
