Iheme Nancy, a Nigerian actress, has joined her peers in criticizing Nollywood veteran Shan George, who dispelled rumors about fellow actor Hanks Anuku wandering the streets in shabby clothing.
On Monday, November 14, a video appeared online showing a man walking around in torn clothes who many people assumed to be the actor. The footage was posted online.
The man, who has the same physical appearance as the movie star, can be seen in the distressing clip looking unkempt and haggard on the streets of Benin. The movie celebrity is also visible in the footage.
In response to the rumors, Shan George addressed them in an Instagram post on Monday night. In the story, he stated that the actor is not insane, contrary to widespread belief.
The 52-year-old celebrity, who had previously posted images of herself and the actor at a filming site, revealed that they had both been working on a film set three days ago.
In spite of the fact that well-known actress Shan George stated that the actor was doing great, Nancy criticized Shan on her Instagram page for trying to cover up the problem rather than assisting the actor in getting help.
Since the news surfaced, she claims that she has been making an effort to maintain her composure and go about her daily activities, but her conscience hasn’t allowed her to be.
She verified that his condition is not a secret to the majority of those living in Asaba or working in the acting industry because many people have seen him in various unusual settings at late hours.
Iheme related a story of a run-in she had with him at a restaurant, where he came dangerously close to assaulting her for no apparent reason.
She wrote;
“I have been trying to keep calm and mind my business since yesterday but my conscience wouldn’t let me, this disturbing video of Legendary Uncle Hanks Anuku surfaced on internet which is true, which is his reality @shangeorgefilms came out to debunk it instead of letting him get the help he needs atlast, instead of allowing people help him you cancelled a truth. Why na? Uncle Hanks condition is not a secret to any Asaba based actor neither is it to most Asaba resident as most people have seen him in different odd locations in abnormal state.
Personally I have had an encounter with him at 1side bar where I normally buy fish pepper soup whenever I’m in Asaba, this incident happened last month on the 27th of October, where he almost beat me up for no reason, he said some hurting words to me and @ujunwa_aninneji but we kept calm because he wasn’t himself, from that day I prayed he could get help and finally yesterday that God was about to answer that prayer, you stopped it for reasons best known to you. Drinking to stupor, walking around Asaba is not new. Pls this post is to plead to well meaning Nigerians. Hanks Anuku needs help”.
