The relationship between Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith has trended more than other celebrity couples in recent years. With topics that are sometimes misinterpreted or criticized online, Jada has been unstoppable throughout her Red Table Talk, and now Will has made waves, adding even more to the narrative. In an interview last week, ahead of the publication of his new book, Will, which will be published on February 9th, he revealed to Oprah Winfrey that he has the sensation that he has let down every woman he has ever been with. As a result of the publication of his memoir, which includes some explicit details about how many times he and Jada would have sexual relations in a single day at the beginning of their relationship, he has gone into greater detail about his “raging jealousy” towards Jada’s connection to the late Tupac Shakur.
After meeting in the late 1980s, 2Pac and Jada became fast friends until he was arrested and sent to jail in 1995. A falling out resulted in his death in 1996 in a drive-by shooting before they could ever reconcile their differences. Throughout the book, Will pondered on their ‘ride or die’ friendship, writing, “Though they were never intimate with one another, their love for each other is legendary — they defined ‘ride or die.'” Afterwards, he said that their relationship was “torturous” to his thinking. “At the outset of our relationship, their closeness was causing me mental anguish. I was PAC, and he was PAC as well. He sparked the idea that I was a coward in my own eyes. The fact that I wasn’t what he was in the world made me resentful, and I was filled with rage because I wished Jada would look at me like that,” he said.
After almost two decades, Will reminisced on the weird sort of triumph he had when she decided to spend time with him over 2Pac. “If she selected me over Tupac, there was no way I could be a coward,” he said. I have never felt more validated in my life… I was in the same room with Tupac a number of times, but I never said anything to him. Because of the way Jada felt about Pac, I was unable to be friends with him in the first place. “I was a little too immature,” he said. The 54-year-old said of the late rapper’s “fearless passion that was seductive, a militant morality, and a desire to fight and die for what he felt was right.”
However, Jada has long stated that she and Tupac came to the conclusion that they were better off as friends after they had a “disgusting kiss” in a poem written about her. According to Howard Stern, she said in 2015, “There was a point when I just wanted someone to kiss me! “The rest of it will be up to chance,” she said in 2015. “And believe me when I say that had to have been the most horrible kiss for both of us.”
