“I’ve been messing around with the thing trying to get it to work,” said Tammy, who claims that no one notified her about the recall over a fire hazard until her hotspot malfunctioned, at which point she took it to a local Verizon store in order to have it repaired. “I’ve been messing around with the thing trying to get it to work,” said Tammy.

The company sent everyone in her system who had one of the affected hotspots an email back in April.”

Verizon has stated that they have provided an update to the software that is present in the device in order to reduce the possibility of it overheating. But the hotspot had to be activated in order for it to function properly.
In the case of Tammy, she stated that the company advised her that a replacement would not be available for several weeks.
She explained that after a period of six to eight weeks, the company would send her an empty box. After that, she would be able to take the unit, place it in the box, and return it to the company.
Tammy explained to the Verizon customer service representatives that her device was not functioning properly, and as a result, the updates would not have been successful. She does not have any other access to the internet, so she must pay a monthly fee to use the hotspot.
Here are the reasons why Verizon customers like Tammy are unable to simply pick up a replacement at their neighborhood store. When they are shipped, lithium batteries need to be packaged in a particular manner. Because Verizon has contracted with a third party to handle this process, the wait time to get the unit returned and replaced can be anywhere from a few days to several weeks.
